In 1936, Yakov Khalip began working on the photo album “Red Army”. It is for this album that Khalip creates one of the most famous photos “In the watch”. The idea of the photo appeared in Rodchenko’s Studio while working on the layout of the magazine, the sketch of which also belonged to Rodchenko. This is a classic case of staging: for shooting, carpenters made a special ladder so that the Khalip could remove the muzzle of the gun at the right distance, the captain posed on a small elevation, and the signalman signaled the battleship to go exactly where the photographer needed.
