The most important stage in the photographic career of Nikolay Drachinsky is associated with “Ogonyok” magazine. He was a photojournalist for this magazine in the 50s, and he managed to go on business trips not only to different parts of the Soviet Union, but also to countries in Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Europe. One of the series of photographs from this period is related to Sudan: hunters, villagers and their way of life, cotton fields, portraits of local beauties.
