In the 1990s, Jean-Marie Perrier, at the invitation of ELLE magazine, shot a series of portraits “The World of fashion designers”. It includes photos of famous fashion designers: Jean-Paul Gaultier, John Galliano, Vivienne Westwood and others. Perrier photographed fashion designers in their usual environment: for example, the author photographed Karl Lagerfeld near his villa in his native Hamburg.
Karl Lagerfeld, the legendary couturier, headed the Chanel fashion house from 1983 to 2019. In 1995, he was caught in Perrier’s lens: here he stands against the backdrop of his Hamburg home, sheltering from the snow under a Chanel umbrella. After the shooting, the photographer recalled: “Karl is an amazing person who can turn pleasure into work and work into passion. He is polite and strict, and is able to combine several parallel lives and personalities.”
